Myocardial Lesions Resulting from Dietary Deficiency *

چکیده
In 1937, Schrader, Prickett, and Salmon3 reported that rats fed on a diet low in potassium exhibited extensive pathologic changes in the intestine, pancreas, kidneys, and heart. Prior to this, Miller2 had reported that rats fed on a low potassium diet were abnormally "alert" and that growth was slow; Leulier and Vanhems' found that their animals survived only 12 to 24 days and did not grow. The present investigation was stimulated by an interest in the myocardial lesions demonstrated in the animals which were investigated by Schrader and his co-workers. The diet described by these workers consisted of extracted grain mixture, extracted casein, a salt mixture, and added vitamin B in the form of a fuller's earth adsorbate of brewer's yeast extract. This latter, according to their statement, had no significant effect on weight or length of life. The diet was not analyzed for potassium content.

Effects of long-term calcium deficiency on the electro-and echocardiography in laying hens
Background: Ca is the most important minerals in the body that plays a key rols in the physiological activities, anzymatic reaction and the regulation of myocardial contraction and relax-ation. Ca deficiency causes the heart failure and decrease cardiac contractility. OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of long-term dietary calcium deficiency on the heart function of layer hens based on the el...
متن کاملThe value of the Gated 99mTc-MIBI SPECT in differentiation of fixed myocardial lesions [Persian]
Fixed myocardial defects in both stress and rest images, could be artifactual as a result of soft tissue attenuation. To increase specificity and identify the false positive results, we used gated technique to evaluate the wall motion and wall thickening as an index to differentiate real ischemic lesions from artifactual defects. 93 patients were studied. In 46 patients (48.8%) fixed perf...
متن کاملCaptopril protects against myocardial injury induced by magnesium deficiency.
We have previously reported that antioxidant drug intervention protects against magnesium deficiency-induced myocardial lesions. In the present study, Golden Syrian male hamsters were fed either a magnesium-deficient diet or a magnesium-supplemented diet. Animals from each group received sulfhydryl-containing angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors: captopril, epi-captopril (a stereoisomer of ...
متن کاملVitamin D deficiency and myocardial diseases.
Vitamin D deficiency is common among patients with myocardial diseases because sun-induced vitamin D production in the skin and dietary intake of vitamin D is often insufficient. Knockout mice for the vitamin D receptor develop myocardial hypertrophy and dysfunction. It has also been shown that children with rickets who suffered from severe heart failure could be successfully treated with suppl...
متن کاملRole of free radicals and substance P in magnesium deficiency.
In the United States the literature contains only sporadic references to clinical disorders of Mg-deficiency, compared to more recent interest in the benefits of magnesium infusion in myocardial infarction and other acute clinical conditions [1,2]. In Europe the clinical interest in Mg-deficiency was pioneered by Durlach in his book entitled Le Magnesium en Prutique Clinique; the English editio...
